Encroachments in and around Osmania

market and fort to be removed

District administration proposes to build

a road through the market to ease traffic

Raichur: As part of the ongoing drive to clear encroachments in Raichur city, the district administration has initiated action to remove illegal constructions encroaching on public sites in and around the Osmania vegetable market and the fort in the city.

A team of officials from the Revenue Department and the city municipality, along with labourers and equipment, reached the Osmania market on Wednesday and initiated action to acquire the notified public sites in the market and around the fort adjacent to the market. They dismantled an old building at the market and removed a compound wall adjacent to the fort, which they claim was illegally constructed by a hotel.

According to official sources, the district administration plans to construct a road on the acquired land for direct access between Teen Khandil Circle and the Maremma temple via the market, easing the pressure of traffic on the existing road via Cloth Bazaar here.

It has also proposed to provide space for parking on the available site within the vegetable market.

In its recent survey, the district administration concluded that many people had constructed houses and commercial complexes in an unauthorised manner by encroaching on the notified area around the fort wall and its moat, extending from Mahaveer Circle to Basaveshwara Circle.

It also ordered the officials concerned to take action to clear all identified encroachments on this stretch, and a building in which the main branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad is located.
