MC removes hoardings, Cong condemns action

Jagdeep Chopra | Patiala

The crack team of the land branch of the municipal corporation here swung into action against the hoardings put up all over the city and got them removed all in no time. But this action of the MC came under severe criticism by the leaders of the Congress party who had put up huge hoardings in the city all over when Captain Amarinder Singh was appointed the chief of Punjab Congress unit.

The crack team led by the land branch superintendent, Ranjit Singh went across the city roads and removed all the hoardings most of them were of Capt Amarinder Singh's welcome. These hoardings were removed from Sheranwala Gate, Lahori Gate, Main Bus Stand, Fountain Chowk, and Leela Bhawan side of the Children Memorial Chowk.

When the Congress party's leader noticed this action they severely criticised this saying that this an action committed in frustration by the Akalis and they have used the MC staff as a tool in this connection.

On the other hand, when contacted the superintendent of the land branch said that this had been done in compliance of the High Court's direction's regarding the putting up of the hoardings as these were put up here and there unauthorisingly.

He clarified MC has fixed up sites for the display of the hoardings in the city and also awarded contract to the agency in this connection and under the contract every person interested into putting up his or her hoarding has to dole out some amount of money for this purpose where as all these hoardings have been put up unauthorisingly.
