Kanpur Municipal Corporation carries out anti-encroachment drive

KANPUR: Acting tough against the roadside encroachers in the localities of Krishna Nagar area, the enforcement wing of Kanpur Municipal Corporation carried out a massive anti-encroachment drive on Thursday.

Commencing the drive from the busy lane of Krishna Nagar Market, the KMC officials demolished the houses and shops that were extending beyond the limits and occupying roads in nearby lanes as well. Several temporary shops that had been causing traffic snarls were also razed. During the drive, police force had been roped in to ensure that the drive is conducted successfully.

The drive was headed by KMC's enforcement wing head, CP Shukla while the zonal officials also accompanied the drive. According to the official data, four dozen temporary structures were removed in the drive while half a dozen permanent tea stalls were also demolished in the drive.

The extended embankments of the houses were also demolished by the bulldozers. The enforcement wing also extorted 50 thousand rupees as user charges from the locals of the area.

Though the locals tried to resist the drive that was being carried out, the heavy arrangement of police personnel ensured that the drive went on smoothly. A local shopkeeper, who had entered into scuffle with the police, was thrashed while others cooperated with the officials.
