After HC rap, BMC pulls down 5,000 illegal hoardings in a day

Following HC directives, the BMC Friday told the court that it has pulled down 5,065 illegal hoardings. This was higher than what BMC had on Thursday said it was targeting. The court was also told the Mira-Bhyander Municipal Corporation had removed 1,204 hoardings as of 1 am Friday. BMC counsel Anil Sakhare said more illegal hoardings will be pulled down in 2-3 days.

Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice A P Bhangale, while appreciating the efforts of the corporations said the drive must continue. "Finally it (illegal hoardings) will cause a loss to the state exchequer," the court observed.

"Ask your concerned (municipal) commissioners to call a meeting of all political leaders and counsel them...," the court said. Adjourning the case to April 25, the court sought a compliance report.

"We hope the work will continue and remedial action will be taken and every single hoarding/poster/banner is removed," the court added.
