Multi-storey buildings demolished

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) removed illegal constructions measuring over 25,000 sq ft in Ghorpadi area on Wednesday.

One of the buildings had 36 flats, out of which 18 were occupied. Besides, the civic officials demolished a six-storey reinforced cement concrete (RCC) building (RCC), which had a parking lot on the ground floor and a five-storey structure above it, a statement issued by the PMC said.

"For the second consecutive day, the civic administration took action against multi-storey apartments. The administration had served notices to the owners saying that the construction was unauthorised. The owners were asked to demolish the building, but they did not take any steps. Hence, the civic officials and the police razed the structure despite opposition from residents," the officials said.

About 55 police officials and 30 workers participated in the drive. Two JCBs, gas cutters and other equipment were used for the work. Illegal sheds and concrete houses in slum pockets of Shivajinagar, Kasba Peth, Wadgaonsheri, Ambegaon, Kothrud, Katraj, NIBM Road and Pashan were demolished last week. The action was taken against residential as well as commercial establishments.
