Demolition drive by Allahabad Municipal Corporation in Old City areas

ALLAHABAD: Allahabad Municipal Corporation conducted a demolition drive in several areas of the old city on Saturday. Several illegal kiosks that had mushroomed in the area were razed during the drive. The squad was accompanied with police force to quell any resistance from the encroachers.

The demolition squad comprising of bulldozers, JCB machines and trucks reached Sulakhi crossing at about 10:30 am. It then turned towards Mansoravar Cinema and came on to Zero Road. It then passed through Chandralok cinema and turned towards Kotha Parcha, demolishing illegal structures along the way. The squad then came towards Bahadurganj and terminated at Sulaki crossing.

In the demolition drive, about 28 roadside kiosks were razed to the ground. 5 tin-sheds were pulled down and 9 makeshift shops were seized. A fine of about Rs 28,500 was realized from the erring shopkeepers.

The demolition drive was conducted under the supervision of demolition inspector Piyush Mohale.
