MC clears debris, shopkeepers pitch in

LUDHIANA: After carrying out the drive for demolishing illegal encroachments in areas surrounding Ghumar Mandi, one of the busiest commercial areas of the city, in an unprecedented action, municipal corporation (MC) is now clearing debris so as to ensure smooth traffic flow in the area.

For the last two days, teams of MC have been cleaning debris in areas like College Road. On Sunday, it was the turn of Ghumar Mandi locality, where shopkeepers had voluntarily removed infringements on their own. In what seems like an unprecedented act, teams of the civic body loaded the debris of removed encroachments in their vehicles to clear the commercial area and allow free flow of traffic in the locality. Meanwhile, shopkeepers continued to removed illegal encroachments on Sunday.

Lauding MC’s effort to remove the debris for vacating the space, JK Verma, a shopkeeper of Ghumar Mandi, said sensing that the shopkeepers had agreed to comply with their instructions, the MC authorities are co-operating with them. “We are always ready to co-operate with officers who work for welfare of people” he added.
