New Delhi: The sealing squad of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) targeted defaulters of conversion charges in the Central Zone and South Zone on Thursday.

Nearly nine properties, including showrooms, commercial complexes, shops and offices were sealed in Lajpat Nagar, which falls in the Central Zone. The properties include an electronics showroom, a beauty parlour and a garments store.

Four properties were sealed by the MCD in the South Zone. “All these traders had not paid conversion and parking charges, which is mandatory under the Masterplan 2021. We had been sending notices to them asking them to deposit the charges. They did not respond and we had no option but seal their properties,” a senior MCD official said.

The civic agency said that the drive will intensify in the coming days. “Major properties like TV showrooms and garments showrooms have also been targeted by our staff. These defaulters were given sufficient time to deposit the charges, but they did not,” the official added.

South Zone officials also sealed two properties for unauthorised construction in Chhattarpur and Chhattarpur Enclave and a farmhouse where functions were being held without permission. The farmhouse has been sealed following recommendation from the Delhi Police, officials said.

The Central Zone staff also demolished four such properties that had carried out unauthorised construction, in Amrit Puri and Sainik Farms.
