‘Recover land where lease has expired’

BANGALORE: The property recovery committee of the BBMP council inspected the city's east zone on Wednesday and asked the officials to recover properties whose lease had expired.

The committee asked officials to recover the property next to Ulsoor lake as its lease had expired and there was a court order against it as well. The committee noticed that several private parties were using the Palike land for commercial purpose, which was against the terms when the property was given on lease. The committee decided to consult legal cell to take action against such violators.

The committee directed officials to fence one acre of land belonging to the BBMP to protect it from encroachers.

Basement shops in 52 CG Road bldgs to be razed

AHMEDABAD: Shops in the basements of many commercial buildings on the CG Road face demolition, and are to be razed in just a couple of days. The drive is aimed at clearing basement parking spaces in 52 buildings on the city's only boulevard.

After sending a number of warnings and notices, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finally decided to act against irregular constructions on the CG Road.

The west zone office of the AMC has drawn a 'hit list' of 52 buildings on the CG road. In most of these buildings, the parking lots have been crammed with a variety of shops. "We will now target the CG Road where we have noticed irregularities, like building shops in the parking space of commercial complexes," said a senior AMC official. "To set the record straight, we are armed with a High Court order, which directs that all parking space be freed of encroachments and defaulters fined. We expect the members of the commercial complexes' association to co-operate with us."

A residential and commercial building in Memnagar also faces a similar fate. In fact, every zonal office of the AMC has been given a copy of the demolition order to target buildings which have illegal extensions and even encroachment in the basement parking space. "Our priority has been to target buildings that have not kept their promise of providing adequate parking space," the AMC official said.

Metro demolition leads to tension in South End

Aug 23: There was tension at South End Circle in Jayanagar on Monday as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd continued to demolish properties to make way for a Metro station. A large number of police were deployed in the area to make sure there was no trouble while the demolition was in progress. A few local residents gathered at the spot to protest the demolition claiming they had stay orders from the high court against it and accusing the BMRCL of illegally demolishing their properties.

The protestors were taken into custody in the morning and later released. Around four buildings are being demolished for the Metro station coming up at the South End Circle. The work which had stopped for a while has now been resumed.Chief PRO, BMRCL, B.L. Yasvanth Chavan asserts that the demolition is being carried out with the high court's approval. “No one should have any objections as the high court has vacated the stay on acquisition of land by BMRCL. There is a stay order on 240 sq meters of additional land that we had requested for, but the rest of the land belongs to us and we are legally right in bringing down the buildings here,” he said, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, adding that the owners had been told to vacate before the demolition started.

“It’s a commercial area , but only a few small buildings are being demolished,” he added. But as confusion continued, the tahasildar and other BBMP officials met the property owners, explaining to them that the stay order had been vacated by the high court and the land now belonged to BMRCL. “The situation is under control. We will keep a strict lookout until the buildings are demolished,” said ACP, Jayanagar sub-division, Ramesh Chandra.
