HMDA to buy new equipment for city roads

HYDERABAD: The Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (UMTA) functioning under Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to purchase road painting machines (Greko Sprayers) and 10 digital cameras for each traffic police station.

The sub-Committee of UMTA which met recently under the chairmanship of    additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand discussed various aspects of traffic planning for the city.

In a press release issued by HMDA, metropolitan commissioner BP Acharya issued instructions to chief engineer and other officers for releasing funds from HMDA’s Traffic Emergency Relief Fund (TERF),for the urgent nature of works.

The committee agreed to open up an additional lane for traffic during peak hours by utilising extra lanes on the opposite side on SP Road, where traffic jams occur regularly.

The committee also discussed about traffic signaling system and its maintenance, road repairs, road cutting policy, maintenance and creation of new bus bays, road markings, identifying main bottlenecks, parking policies, pedestrian services, increasing traffic fines, shifting of poles after road widening and traffic signal improvements.
