'Implement Laloor Model Project soon'

THRISSUR: The Corporation authorities here should show their social responsibility by implementing the Laloor Model Project at the earliest, Sukumar Azhikode has said.

Inaugurating the indefinite hunger strike by Laloor Maleekarana Virudha Samithi chairman T K Vasu in front of the the Corporation’s office here on Wednesday, Azhikode said the Corporation authorities were behaving like scarecrow towards a group of people who have been fighting for their rights for the past many decades.

“If the authorities continue behaving so irresponsibly and without any kind of social obligation, Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala, would soon become the capital of uncultured activities,” Azhikode warned.

“Authorities say the strike by the Laloor residents is unnecessary. But I feel the reason for the strike was unnecessary, not the strike,” Sukumar Azhikode  added.

He also said it was a shame that the Opposition in the Corporation is silent on the issue.

“It seems the members of both the ruling and Opposition parties in Corporation are being remunerated for their inefficiency in solving public issues.”

Writer Sara Joseph, who presided over the inaugural session, opined  that it was because of the greed for money and power that the authorities were not in favour of the Laloor Model Project.

Civic Chandran, Sreedharan Therambil, Dr M Jayaprakash, and M Peethambaran addressed the activists on the occasion.
