Rs 2,414 cr blueprint for SAS Nagar Mohali gets final touches

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday gave final touches to the Rs 2,414 crore blueprint for the integrated development of SAS Nagar Mohali and adjoining areas like Zirakpur, Lalru, Derabassi, Chhat, Kumbra, Matour, Sohana, Kambali and Mullanpur besides Aerocity, to upgrade the total infrastructure of this area, anticipating accelerated development of this area after construction of the International Airport at Mohali.

In a six-hour-long marathon meeting of Secretaries and head of departments, Badal besides approving the 20 major infrastructure projects of the region also approved the modernisation plan of Mohali Police. GMADA Chief Administrator Vivek Partap Singh gave a comprehensive presentation of the ongoing projects of GMADA besides projects sanctioned for the next year.

The projects approved in the meeting included augmentation of water supply scheme of city by bringing 40 MBD canal water from Kajauli and upgradation and widening of Mullanpur Road. Badal also gave the go ahead to the ambitious Kharar bypass project from Sector 56A to NH-95 on Kharar-Ludhiana-Ropar Junction.

It was decided at the meeting to expedite construction of 200 ft wide road connecting NH-21 with Mohali Sector 73-74 and International Airport besides construction of 300 ft wide roads connecting International Airport with Aerotropolis city and Mohali town. The construction of 100 ft wide road along Sector 81 connecting various institutes in Knowledge City was also approved.

Emphasising on creation of world class road infrastructure in the city Badal also approved a vertical grid road on Sector 79/80 to Kharar-Banur Road also to provide connectivity with Mega developer’s projects. To meet the increasing demand of traffic a 100 ft wide horizontal grid road connecting junction 99-100/104 with Kharar Banur Road at junction 106/107-109/110 was also cleared at the meeting.

It was decided to upgrade the fire station in Mohali and equip it with high rise crane ladder keeping in view the upcoming high rise buildings in the areas and `15 crore was sanctioned for this purpose. Focusing on expanding the existing roads in SAS Nagar, Badal sanctioned Rs 25 crore for expansion of a road from Kumbra Chowk to cremation ground and another Rs 5 crore road was sanctioned for upgrading the road from UT to Mohali boundary.

The Deputy Chief Minister asked the SSP to explore the possibilities of Radio-Scooter Rickshaw service to provide door to door pick up service to the residents. He asked the Deputy Commissioner to provide slip roads at every crossing to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Reviewing the work of Mullanpur Urban estate it was decided to set up a Medicity and Educity in Mullanpur. Badal said that world class hospital chains have evinced interest in this project. It was decided to set up a post doctorate medical college also in the Medicity.
