Road overbridge deadline overshoots

HYDERABAD: The long-pending road over-bridge on the road connecting Kukatpally Housing Board Colony with Madhapur near the HITEC City MMTS station, which has been delayed for more than two years is unlikely to completed even next year.

Former late chief minister Y Rajasekhara Reddy laid the foundation stone in December 2006 and the work was supposed to be completed in 15 months by March 2008.

The main problem is related to piers between the tracks which have a wide span of about 125 metres and the works have to be carried out with design approval from the Railways.

Municipal administration minister Anam Narayana Reddy during the opening of Hi-tec City flyover on Saturday told it would be completed in all respects by March 2011. But the assurance given by him looks bleak because wrangles between the South Central Railway (SCR) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on the General Arrangement Drawing (GAD) and detailed designs are yet to be sorted out. When asked on delay in construction, Ramnarayana Reddy said there was a lack of coordination between the SCR and HMDA on various issues. “There was a delay in approving the structure design by the Railways which has been cleared now. We have set a target of March 2011 for completion of the construction works,” he said. However, the HMDA is not sure when the project will be completed because of the slow response to giving clearance by SCR officials.

Though work on parts of the road on either side of the railway lines has been moving on, officials point out it is only 60 percent complete.

The overbridge would have checked the choking up on the spinal road  near the MMTS station as commuters have to go through a vent which is just one-and-a-half metre in width.
