RMC yet to cover up filthy drains

Pioneer News Service | Ranchi

Even though only six days are left for the Durga Puja, the filth, garbage, and dirt still rule the roost around the pandals. Foul smell from open drains exposes sluggishness of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) and the officials those responsible to execute cleanliness drive just before the puja. Drain covering task is yet to be completed.
Alike last year, hundred of puja pandal have been set up the town. But five of them are major pandals, including Bharatiya Yuvak Sangh and Rajasthan Mitra Mandal in Upper Bazaar, two puja pandals near Harmu road and one near East Market. So far, RMC has yet to take cleanliness drive around these pandals. Open drains around the pandals are sure to be proved hazardous for the huge crowd surges that surges during puja.

Open drains caused severe inconvenience to the people last year. Some of the people suffered injuries after slipping into drains as those were lying uncovered. To avoid repetition of such incidents, the RMC has chalked out a plan to cover the drains around all major pandals. However, the drains are yet to complete its plan.
RMC feels that the task of covering drain would be completed just in time. Just a day ago, RMC Public Relation Officer Naresh Kumar Sinha claimed that the task was on at warfooting level to cover the drains and 125 labourers will be hired from October 10 to 15 for timely completion of the task before Durga Puja. But it seems to be a distant dream now.
