New Delhi:  As a security measure, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will light up the Ridge area in front of ITC Maurya, where US President Barack Obama will stay during his visit to Delhi next week. The civic body apparently does not want to take any chances as the Ridge along S P Marg is home to trees, bushes, monkeys and sometimes miscreants.

As many as 15 poles with floodlights will be propped up along 500 metres of the Ridge to illuminate 30-metre area of the bush. “While streetlights focus towards the roads, these ones will face the Ridge. It is a temporary arrangement and will be removed once Obama leaves,” said a senior NDMC official.

NDMC said the rest of the stretch bordering SP Marg has already undergone streetscaping work for the Commonwealth Games and is therefore well-lit. “Mother Teresa Crescent and Mandir Marg adjacent to SP Marg already have two set of lights. There are streetlights as well as small lights,” added the official. Work will begin in a few day’s time.
