Slew of projects reduces roads to narrow lanes

K Narasimhamurthy, Kolar, Nov 1, DH News Service:

The never-ending development projects in the City have compelled the people to tread narrow roads, braving open drains and pits.

The Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board had dug the road wantonly for drainage work. By the time the project came to close citizens were accustomed to uneven-surfaced roads. As the drainage project came to close, another one to construct storm water drainage has now begun.

As a result, road asphalting has come to standstill. Sewage water is stagnating on roads due to clogged and incomplete drainage.

Heaps of soil dug for the project too have not been removed and the recent rains only compounded the misery. The roads have been rendered unfit, both for vehicles and pedestrians.

Drainage work is progressing in main roads of PC Extension. Consequently, the road is lost in slush, rain water. A parked concrete mixer reduced the visibility as a result of which a cameraman of a private channel skidded on his bike. There is no street light in the particular corner and such incidents have become order of the day.

Meanwhile, the ‘suggestion’ of a few councillors to the residents on laying water supply pipelines too has been promptly complied with.

It has been a month since metalling was done and copious rains have washed away the surface soil. Asphalting cannot be carried out unless the drainage work is completed.
On the other hand, there have also been complaints of slipshod work on drainage. Municipal Commissioner had directed to reconstruct a drainage in the second ward after he noticed poor quality work.
