MC panel recommends renting out of AC Fish and Meat Market booths

Finance and Contract Committee of the Municipal Corporation has recommended that the booths of the AC Fish and Meat Market be given on rent. The recommendations would be forwarded to the UT Finance Secretary for approval.

In a meeting held today members of F&CC took up the issue after auction of the booths failed twice due to the high reserve price. The market had been set up in Sector 41 with the aim of rehabilitating the fish and meat sellers in different parts of the city as well as provide a hygienic place to the residents for making purchases.

However, the booths found no takers with no one turning up when the auctions were scheduled. The reserve price for the booths varied between Rs 37.50 lakh to Rs 77.50 lakh. The booths were to be auctioned on leasehold basis for 99 years. It was then proposed that the booths be given on rent. This was approved by the F&CC.

The committee also decided that security guards would be deployed in the gardens and greenbelts of the civic body. While there are 47 greenbelts and and 22 gardens, security guards would be deployed through outsourcing in those areas where these are needed urgently. The need was felt in order to protect the plants, machinery and other equipment lying in the gardens. Around 180 guards are required to be deployed. The committee approved the purchase of laptops for the councillors. While this has been a long pending demand of the councillors, approval has also been received from the UT Administration.

Child play equipment would be installed in various parks of Sector 39. Agenda for laying paver blocks at various places was also approved.

The councillors also held a discussion on the action taken report. The status of the work that had been approved in various meetings was discussed. The discussion led to arguments between the councillors and officials.

The meeting was held under the chairpersonship of Mayor Anu Chatrath and attended by other members including Municipal Commissioner Dr Roshan Sunkaria, Jatinder Bhatia, Chander Mukhi Sharma, Pardeep Chhabra and Ram Lal as well as officials of the civic body.
