Builders to pool in Rs. 1 cr. for a new swimming pool

Special Correspondent

Builders attached to Mangalore chapter of the Confederation of Real Estate and Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) have agreed to donate Rs. one crore to Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to build a new swimming pool, according to Harish Kumar K., Commissioner of the corporation.

When contacted, the Commissioner told The Hindu that it would be named as MCC-CREDAI swimming pool.

The existing swimming pool at Lady Hill was now being used by all. It does not provide chance for swimmers who would like to practise for competitions to practice for long. Such swimmers require at least five hours of practising.

Lack of adequate swimming lanes did not make it fit enough for any major swimming competition to be held at the existing swimming pool. The new swimming pool would address these issues. He said that the corporation would identify a location for constructing the new pool.

Mr. Kumar said the Corporation Bank had come forward to donate Rs. 70 lakh to the corporation for constructing a clock tower and re-build a circle at Hampankatta in front of NGO Hall. Of this, Rs. 50 lakh would be used for building the clock tower and the balance amount for re-building the circle there.

The Commissioner said that the management of the Hotel Ocean Pearl had agreed to renovate Navabharath Circle. It had agreed to renovate it by installing a music fountain.

Mr. Kumar said the corporation would widen the PVS Circle towards Theosophical Society building side. A building adjacent to the society building was being removed now for the purpose.

A building adjacent to the head office of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank was being removed now for widening the K.S. Rao Road. He said that the narrow stretches on many concrete roads which could not be widened earlier due to various issues were being widened now. The stretch in front of Hotel Ayodhya had been widened. Koti Chennaya Circle at Jeppu was being widened. He said the junction where Kadri Kambala Road joins Bunts Hostel-Mallikatta Road would be widened soon.
