Municipality to repair Vijayan statue
An all-party meeting convened by the Kottakkal municipality on Wednesday in the wake of the defacing of O.V. Vijayan’s statue at Government Raja’s Higher Secondary School, Kottakkal, decided to form a people’s committee to oversee its restoration and conservation.
The municipality will lead the repairs of the statue.
The meeting expressed dissatisfaction at the police investigation into the vandalism. None has been booked in connection with the incident, which had sparked a wave of anger and protests from different quarters.
The statue of Vijayan, which had been awaiting government clearance for inauguration, was found vandalised on March 7 afternoon.
