NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission today approved plan size of Rs 2,500 crore for the fiscal 2013-14 for Tripura, up 11.1 per cent from a year ago.

The plan size was discussed here in a meeting between Planning Commission Deputy ChairmanMontek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister of TripuraManik Sarkar.

"Tripura's growth rate for the 11th plan has been very good, roughly the same as the country as a whole. We have agreed on a plan size of Rs 2,500 crore and we have reviewed various aspects which are critical to the state," Ahluwalia told reporters after the meeting.

He said the state's performance in agriculture sector has been very good.

However, he also said that the chief minister of the state has drawn his attention to some critical infrastructure projects in the state.

"... some of the critical infra projects likely to be implemented by the central government are really behind schedule, and we agree that it is an area where we should put some special emphasis," he said.

Ahluwalia also said that he has discussed with Road and Railways Minister C P Joshi how the government should try to accelerate completion of national highways project in the state.

Chief Minister Sarkar said the highest priority will be given to general economic services followed by social services and agriculture in the state.

He said efforts are on to create investor friendly environment and open up social sector for private investments.

"The state has enrolled maximum numbers under UID scheme and around 90 per cent population has already been covered," he said.
