Infrastructure works in PCMC to start from Nov

PUNE: The civic administration of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will start major construction works from November onwards. Ward-level projects will begin from October onwards, said civic officials on Wednesday.

The delay in implementation of construction work slated for this year was raised at the standing committee meeting. Committee member Chandrakant Walke said the implementation of small development works in wards like laying drainage lines, laying footpaths and tarring of internal roads have not started yet, despite the PCMC making budgetary provision for it.

A senior civic official said that the process of inviting bids, finalizing the contractor, getting approval of the standing committee and giving the work order to contractors need time. The process will be completed by October by then the monsoon season will also get over and the construction work can start.

Additionally, standing committee chairman Navnath Jagtap pointed out that the local cable TV operators pay the civic body for allowing their cables to pass over the streetlights. A similar charge should be made applicable for telecom companies, he said.

The standing committee approved a proposal for purchase of antidotes for snake bites from Haffkine Biopharmaceuticals for the civic run Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital at an expenditure of Rs 3.43 lakh. Proposal for providing medical care to the pilgrims accompanying the annual Sant Tukaram and Sant Dnyaneshwar palkhi processions was also approved.
