Civic body's legal department to get officer after 20 yrs

NASHIK: The legal department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation ( NMC), which has been functioning without an officer since the last 20 years, is expected to get one soon.

The post of will be filled during the forthcoming recruitment drive for various posts in the civic body.

At present, only two employees, including a legal superintendent, are shouldering the responsibility of the department. It is one of the important departments of the civic body as all the legal issues and court matters are monitored by it.

According to sources, the legal department had seven employees along with seven to eight lawyers on the legal panel in the 1990s. Today, the number of lawyers on the NMC's legal panel has increased to 20, while the number of employees in the department has reduced to two.

Speaking to TOI, deputy commissioner ( LBT) Haribhau Phadol, who is also the officiating in-charge of administration as well as the legal department, said, "We have decided to fill the post of the legal officer during our forthcoming recruitment drive for several posts in various departments. The recruitment drive will conducted soon and we will have a legal officer. Moreover, we will recruit one more employee for the legal department shortly."

Municipal commissioner Sanjay Khandare said, "We have a panel of 20 lawyers, who are looking at all the legal and court matters of the civic body. Our legal department is constantly in touch with the lawyers too. The vacant post will be filled soon during the recruitment drive."
