Assembly polls: North corporation clears hospital plan in Rohini

Ahead of the Assembly elections, the North Municipal Corporation has passed a resolution to construct a 13-storey general hospital at Haiderpur in Rohini. The hospital will come up on a 7.5-acre plot of wasteland.

According to the report of commissioner P K Gupta, site inspection was done along with officials of the health and engineering department, councillor Rekha Gupta and chairman (standing committee) Ram Kishan Singhal. "During the inspection, it was decided to prepare a comprehensive scheme for construction of a general hospital on the plot," the report said.

Accordingly, a preliminary estimate of Rs 596 crore has been given by the engineering department. "The hospital will have 13 levels above the ground structure and a two-level basement for parking. It will be a green building with provisions for fire-fighting, lifts, water-harvesting and air-conditioning plants, CCTVs, access control system for security, solar water heating system and solar lighting," the commissioner said.

On the need for the hospital, Rekha Gupta said, "There are two major private hospitals in the area and both are out of reach of poor patients. We have a JJ slum cluster, whose residents cannot afford those hospitals. On the other hand, there is no government hospital in the area. So, we have decided to open the general hospital."
