Nashik Municipal Corporation to provide cycles to 500 girl students

NASHIK: The education department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has shortlisted around 500 beneficiaries for bicycles under a scheme of the woman and child welfare department.

In August, the civic body had initiated a survey for identifying girl students studying in high schools of the NMC and living beyond the radius of three km from school as beneficiaries of the scheme. The education department had asked principals of all the 129 schools to make a list of such students. Around 500 of them have been identified and will be benefiting from the scheme in November.

The civic body has made a provision of Rs 35 lakh in the budget this year for distribution of bicycles.

Deputy municipal commissioner (education) Dattatreya Gotise, who is also the administrative in-charge of the woman and child welfare department, said, "There are around 500 girl students in the NMC's high schools. We are in the process of completing the formalities and in November, we will be handing over the bicycles to the beneficiaries."

Gotise further said, "After the formalities are completed and the file is signed by the municipal commissioner, bicycled will be purchased." A decision in this regard is expected soon.
