CM’s gift: 10 car parking facilities

April 6th, 2010

April 5: Buoyed by the overwhelming victory of his party in the BBMP council polls, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has announced 10 multi-level car parking facilities in thickly populated areas in the city and his intention to pursue the circular railway proposal.

The two proposals will form part of the Rs 22,500 crore package announced by the Chief Minister to improve infrastructure facilities in the next three years.

Describing the verdict as a ‘fitting reply’ to the Opposition Congress and JD(S), Mr Yeddyurappa said it was enough to silence his critics. He felt people had voted for the developmental works initiated by his government in the state capital in the last 22 months.

“My dream is to make Bengaluru one of the best metropolitan cities in the world. I would expect the Opposition to play a constructive role instead of throwing a spanner to obstruct developmental works undertaken by us,” he said.

“After New Delhi, Bengaluru is the city in the country which is drawing the maximum international attention. We will not allow new slums to come up and also plan to improve civic amenities in existing slums,” he announced.

To ease traffic congestion, the Chief Minister said he had written to the railway ministry seeking a circular train network for Bengaluru on a cost sharing basis.
