MMRDA to build two flyovers near CST Bridge

Santacruz Chembur Link Road

The much-delayed Santacruz Chembur Link Road project is expected to be completed early next year.

The MMRDA is planning to construct two flyovers near CST Bridge in Kurla to regulate the flow of traffic from Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR), which is expected to be completed early next year. MMRDA is also planning to remodel CST Bridge.

The first flyover will be from the road to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to CST Road in Kurla, from where vehicles can take the SCLR. The second will be from Mumbai University junction in Kalina to CST Road.

"The bridges were not part of the original plan of the SCLR, but with the project nearing completion, traffic congestion on CST Road will increase. The flyovers will serve in regulating traffic and provide direct connectivity from BKC to SCLR," said MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar.

"We will prepare a feasibility report and the agency selected to draft the report will advise us on the length, width, design of the flyovers and total cost. We expect to choose an agency by September-end. Work will begin next year," Kawathkar said.

CST Bridge is 40 metres long and 30 metres wide. After remodelling, the bridge would be 100 metres long and will 45 metres wide, officials said.

The 6.45-km SCLR, which will enhance the east-west connectivity in the city, is being constructed as part of the World Bank-funded Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) and was scheduled to be completed in 2008.

MMRDA to build two new bridges in Mumbai

MUMBAI: To further ease the traffic snarls in the megapolis, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to build two new bridges besides remodelling the existing bridge that will complement its Santacruz-Chembur east-west link road.

The Authority has invited private agencies for preparing detailed project report.

"The bridges will come up at University Junction, Bandra-Kurla Junction and near Mithi River and complement the Santacruz-Chembur link road, which is expected to be completed by the year-end," MMRDA said in a statement.

According to MMRDA, the two new bridges would connect Bandra-Kurla Link Road to CST Junction and Hans Burga Marg to CST Marg, respectively, while the existing 40-meter long and 30-meter wide CST Bridge would be remodelled to a length of 100 meters and width of 45 meters.

Civic body to start two zonal offices in Bhosari, Nigdi

PUNE: Two new zonal offices of the PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) are expected to begin operations in Bhosari and Nidgi in the next two months.

The PCMC has four zonal offices and wants to decentralize its functioning so that it can cater to the citizens in a better way. Citizens reach out to the zonal offices instead of going to the head office for any civic services or complaintsabout municipal services.

The civic body has cited increase in population and extension of the municipal limits as reasons for creating the additional zonal offices.

Municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi said the civic body is also redrawing the boundaries of the existing zones.

Of the two new zones that will be created, one office will be located in a municipal building in Bhosari and the other zonal office will be in Nigdi. The municipal corporation has urged the Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) to allot its old office building for setting up their office.

Pardeshi said the civic body will need two months to create the new zones. The civic administration had tabled a proposal before the general body for the new zonal offices, which got an approval recently. While the existing four zonal offices are named as A, B, C and D, the new offices will be demarcated as E and F.
