` 1.75 cr for Madikeri Dasara fest’
The historic Madikeri Dasara Utsav will be observed grandeously this year. A sum of Rs 1.75 crore has been earmarked in the budget for the purpose.
A delegation led by Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah, MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan, MLC M C Nanaiah, T John will meet Chief Minister to release additional funds for the Dasara Utsav.
Last year, a sum of Rs 1.62 crore for Dasara utsav was earmarked in the budget. The government had released Rs 40 lakh. This year, the budget of Rs 1.75 crore has been prepared, said Ponnappa. A sum of Rs 12.5 lakh to Rs 14 lakh will be required for the constructing Banni mantapa. A sum of Rs 4 lakh has already been earmarked for the purpose. A sum of Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 will be required for the rituals. The government will be urged to release fund for the construction of Banni mantapa. In case, if the government fails to provide help, donations will be raised from the donors for the completion of the mantapa, he added. The decision on Yuva Dasara will be taken at the Dasara committee meeting.
In 2009-10, a sum of Rs 44,21,571.13 was spent on Madikeri Dasara. The government had released Rs 40 lakh. A sum of Rs 1,15,785 had been raised as donation. A sum of Rs 1,10,37,6.13 has been saved.
