Corporators protest against anti-encroachment squad of ADA

ALLAHABAD: In protest against the removal of roadside shops by anti-encroachment squad of Allahabad Development Authority (ADA) former corporators under the banner of Sarvadaliya Poorva Parishad Sangharsh Samiti staged a dharna at ADA premises on Wednesday and handed over a memorandum demanding an end to victimisation of roadside shopkeepers.

Leading the protest former corporator, Nizamuddin said that it is a well planned conspiracy by ADA and Allahabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to deprive the roadside shopkeepers of their means of livelihood by uprooting their shops. This is inhuman and anti-people which would be resisted at any cost by organising a public movement in this regard.

He added the AMC had earlier served a notice to these shopkeepers asking them to vacate the pavements but after the issue was raised by the Samiti it was forced to retrace its steps and has decided to withdraw the notice.

Another corporator, Salamat Ali said that the common man who is facing the brunt of price rise and unemployment is now being robbed of an alternative source of livelihood. Meanwhile the general secretary Janata Dal (United) Syed Arshad Ali has flayed the traffic cops for poor management of traffic despite the forthcoming festival of Diwali.
