MCD razes six properties in north Delhi

Continuing its war against illegal construction for the second consecutive day, the MCD on Wednesday carried out its demolition drive against unauthorised construction by local builders in north Delhi. The building department of the Civil Lines zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) demolished six properties across Old Subzi Mandi, Rana Pratap Bagh, Gujaranwala Town and Adarsh Nagar.

"The drive lends a fresh perspective against unauthorised construction activities as the department, through these stringent demolition actions, has sent a widespread message amongst the people indulging in illegal construction besides unscrupulous builders to respect laws while undertaking construction work," said a senior MCD official.

Earlier on Tuesday, initiating a crack down aimed at erring builders who swindle innocent people's money with properties constructed illegally, the MCD had demolished nine properties in and around Mukherjee Nagar area in north Delhi.

While in some places floors constructed in illegal manner were razed to the ground, entire buildings were brought down at other places by MCD personnel. As per the provisions of the Master Plan 2021, building plans for construction up to only third floor are allowed.

Last week, the department had demolished 16 illegal structures. Similar drive will continue in the coming days wherein illegal properties of builders will be targeted, MCD officials said.
