VMC to reconstruct part of Khanderao Market headquarters
Sources said that there complaints of water seepage in the extended portion of the building. This made it difficult for the offices located there to store documents. The problem became grave during monsoons. There was reluctance in using the rooms located in this part of the building and the possibility of electricity-related accidents.
The civic body has decided to bring down this portion of the building and reconstruct it at a cost of Rs one crore. Major renovations and alterations have already been conducted in other offices located in the VMC headquarters including that of the municipal commissioner.
The
civic body had in the past considered the option of moving out of the
present headquarters by constructing a new one, but the proposal has
been lying in the cold storage. The possibility was considered as the
present premises had little room for major changes as it was a
historical building and the civic body also wanted to reduce the burden
on it and conserve it.
