GMADA holds draw for sectors 76-80

MOHALI: Putting an end to the 8-year-long wait, finally GMADA held the draw for 398 plots available in sectors 76 to 80 on Friday for the oustees and other allottees. Some of the oustees, however, were unhappy with the process as they alleged that their names were put in the joint quota list instead of single quota list at the last moment.

Through draw of lots, numbers for plots of 100 square yards, 200 square yards and 500 square yards were allotted to the oustees and other allottees. Out of total 143 applications found eligible for draw of plots measuring 100 square yard, allotment was made to 135 applicants.

Meanwhile, out of 235 applicants for 200 square yard plots, 214 included letter of intent (LOI) holders while 21 were oustees. Only 185 plots were available under this category, out of which 16 were reserved for oustees.

For the 86 plots of 500 square yards, 86 applications were received, of which 11 were oustees and only three were reserved for them. Officials said plots were kept in reserve for the oustees who have moved the court and allotment would be made to them after the court decision.

One of the oustees, Jasbir Singh, alleged that earlier his name figured among the single ownership list but now it was in the joint ownership list among five other allottees for a 100 square yard plot.

The issue of allotment of plots was hanging fire since the past eight years as some of the people had approached the court after which status quo was maintained on 102 acres of land in sectors 76 to 80.
