Solar heating system made compulsory for buildings

MOHALI: Adopting the Energy Conservation Building Code of Punjab government, the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has made solar heating system compulsory for buildings coming up on 500 square yards or above.

In future, design of buildings on 500 square yard or above would not be cleared without solar heating provisions. A decision to this effect was taken in the regional planning development (RPD) committee meeting held on Friday.

Sources said as the GMADA has adopted the notification issued by the department of science and technology, environment and non-conventional energy, now, people would have to give in writing that solar heating system would be installed in buildings, without which the design would not be approved.

Confirming the development, additional chief administrator, GMADA, Balwinder Singh Multani said the authority has adopted the system.

Gurpreet Singh, district town planner, said the decision has been implemented with immediate effect.
