BDA: A year of good work

To solve the problems of housing, roads and the traffic woes, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) focused on improving the important roads in the city, to make the Outer Ring Road (ORR) signal free and to meet the ever increasing demand for housing sites in the city. It broke all the previous records in recovering its properties that were illegally encroached by others.

As directed by the government, the BDA is in the process of developing five mega layouts - Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout, Dr Shivaram Karanth Layout, Devaraja Urs Layout, Nijalingappa Layout and K C Reddy Layout around the city to meet the ever increasing demand for housing sites.

Reconstruction work on 12 important lakes around the city at the cost of Rs 104.65 crore was also taken up this year.

The authority took up 1,554 different developmental works including electrification works in BBMP areas at the cost of Rs 623 crore. Nearly 1,330 of these works have been completed or will be completed by the end of the year.

However, the BDA is yet to find a workable solution to develop Arkavathi Layout that has been plaguing the department for the past six years.
