Be ready for the rainy day: Mayor to babus

BANGALORE: SK Nataraj, the new Mayor of Bangalore city, met senior engineers and officials of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday to discuss civic issues and the ongoing development works in the city.

The Mayor asked the BBMP engineers to identify areas of water clogging and take precautionary measures for the rainy season.

He asked the engineers to ensure that water from drains does not overflow onto the streets during the downpours and keep the drains garbage-free to make sure that there was smooth flow of water. He asked the BBMP officers to work without bothering the citizens. He said many trees were uprooted in the rain on April 21. The same may happen again, he said, and asked officials to take precautionary measures.

The mayor pointed out the growing water problem in the city and asked for more care in new localities.

Nataraj said the BBMP must coordinate with the BWSSB and get new borewells sunk. It must also repair the old ones in localities that are facing water shortages. He called for swift action and sought the cooperation of all the officers in the BBMP for efficient and quick results.
