HUDA chief finally has his own house

GURGAON: The city's HUDA administrator finally has a roof over his head. Nitin Yadav had been living in HUDA's guesthouse ever since he took over.

The HUDA official claimed that Yadav could not shift to his official residence in sector 27 A because the former HUDA administrator, G Anupma, continued to live in it even after her term ended early this year. Sources also claimed that the former HUDA administrator is at present posted in the tourism ministry in central government and her husband too is an IAS officer.

As she extended her stay at the palatial official house, Yadav was forced to camp at the guesthouse. He took charge in April this year.

It was a bit embarrassing that Yadav, who as HUDA chief takes final decision on housing, himself did not have a roof over his head, quipped a senior HUDA official

According to a senior HUDA official, The matter was brought to the notice of senior officials in the state government. Things finally started moving in his favour early this month. Last week, the former administrator was asked to vacate the house. According to government rules, senior bureaucrats can retain official government accommodation even after outstation posting.

Staff Reporter

The number of teams presently on the job increased

The GIS-based mapping is required to prepare the tax module

1.8 lakh of the 3.2 lakh assessments have been completed till now

VISAKHAPATNAM: To get its share of funds under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is speeding up the process of getting its Geographic Information System (GIS)-based tax module ready.

“We are planning to complete GIS-mapping and the module ready by December so as to get the Rs.250 crore due for release for fulfilling reforms under the mission,” Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu has said.

The Commissioner, who attended a meeting of the Central JNNURM Reforms Committee headed by Joint Secretary P.K. Srivastava, said 18 reforms, including nine for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), came under review.

The GIS-based mapping required to prepare the tax module was not taken up in several mission cities. Only Ahmedabad and Surat have started it. Visakhapanam has to meet the reforms for GIS-based property tax module and solid waste management. The committee was informed that the solid waste management in which garbage would be collected from doorsteps would be implemented in phases.

The number of teams presently on the job has been increased from 88 to 110. As of now 1.8 lakh of the 3.2 lakh assessments have been completed. A multi-disciplinary team is at work at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium.

Mr. Vishnu said once the GIS-mapping was completed it would bring to light any mistakes in the calculation of the plinth area. It's expected to improve revenue. The assessments for which the exercise was completed had shown some increase in revenue.

Additional Commissioner (Finance) P. Purnachandra Rao was asked to inquire into the audit objections raised for 2003-04 and 2004-05 in the collection of property tax and computerising it. Only an inquiry would reveal whether there was any miscalculation or misappropriation which could be recovered from those responsible under the service rules, the Commissioner said.

Mr.Vishnu said the services of 51 non-muster roll (NMR) workers would be regularised as per a GO issued by the government. The regularisation would be effected once the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration gave orders.

It's auction time again for HMDA

It's auction time again for HMDA

HYDERABAD: Buoyed by the response to land auction three months ago which fetched about Rs 67 crore, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to auction more plots in the first week of November.

In the past few years, HMDA had been auctioning only leftover plots in already developed areas like Nallagandla and Nandagiri Hills, but now for the first time, a new layout is being developed at Gopanpally near Gachibowli on three acres of land exclusively for the auction.

HMDA officials said the Authority owns about six acres land, but only three acres is litigation-free. About 20 plots will be developed with an extent of 300-500 sq yards in the proposed new layout. The HMDA authorities hope this land would be most sought after as the location is close to Gachibowli.

Apart from Gopanpally, a 2,000 sq yards plot at Asifnagar and another 2,000 sq yards plot at Chitra layout near Saroornagar would go under the hammer for auction. The urban development authority is also planning to put up for sale some more plots which could not be sold in the previous auction.

"The authority is planning to go for fresh land auction either in the last week of October or in the first week of November," a senior HMDA official said.

HMDA conducted auctions in July this year after a gap of three years. Of the 229 plots put up for auction, it sold 117 plots through e-bidding and raked in Rs 67.5 crore.

Incidentally, the previous auction's highest successful bidders, Sridevi and Prakash Reddy, who bought a 300 sq yards plot in Nandagiri Hills near Jubilee Hills for Rs 55,251 per sq yard, did not pay the remaining amount of about Rs 1.70 crore to the HMDA in the stipulated time. Hence, the officials gave the plot to the next highest bidder at the rate of Rs 45,000 per sq yard.

The couple had to forfeit the bid amount of Rs 10 lakh for failing to pay the amount.

In the Nallagandla layout, 47 of 98 plots were sold and the upset price was Rs 17,000 per sq yard. In Miyapur, 56 of 102 plots put up for auction were sold by HMDA. Realising that the upset prices fixed last time were the main reason for the good response, the authorities claim rates would be realistic this time too. In the previous bidding, the minimum upset price was Rs 10,000 per sq yard at Miyapur.
