Ring road work to begin in Feb

JAIPUR: The work on ring road will begin in February next year and would be completed in two years. Urban development and housing minister Shanti Dhariwal said this after performing bhoomi poojan' for the service roads for the ambitious project at Shivdaspura on Thursday.

Dhariwal said a new detailed project report is being prepared after the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has decided to execute the project on its own and would be ready by November. He said tenders would be floated after getting the project report. "We are confident that the project would take off in February next year and project is expected to be completed by 2013," he told reporters.

Construction of ring road was conceived in December 2000 by the previous Gehlot government. In Phase I & II, a road with a length of 47 km proposed to be constructed in the south of Jaipur, connecting Ajmer Road, Tonk Road and Agra Road. In Phase III, a road with a length of 97.75 km will be constructed in the northern part of Jaipur and will connect Agra Road, Delhi Road, Sikar Road and Ajmer Road.

It will consist of a six-lane access controlled expressway; a three-lane service road on both sides; a 135 m strip of land will be acquired for construction of road and developed area on either side. The road is envisaged as a toll-free and signal free expressway.

Dhariwal said the project is a prestigious one for the Gehlot government. He said all issues relating to the acquisition of land have been sorted out and the farmers whose land would be acquired have been given a special compensation package. "We have changed the formula for the compensation to people whose land would be acquired for the project," he said.

Under the existing norm the land owners would be given 20% developed land for residential purposes and 5% for commercial activities in lieu of the agricultural land acquired.

However, in this case though the quantum of land is the same 25%, there is no restriction on land use. They can use all their 25% land for commercial or residential purposes as per their choice. There is no restrictions form the JDA of the land use, he said.

He added that the farmers have also the option of choosing either cash compensation or developed land according to their choice. Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi, UDH principal secretary GS sandhu and senior officials of the JDA were present on the occasion.

According to sources the bhoomi poojan was performed to give out a message that the government is determined on the execution of the much discussed and delayed project.

Mansarovar extension project abandoned

Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi said the housing board has abandoned the Mansarovar extension project considering the resistance from the local residents for the acquisition of land. He said the state government has decided to abandon the project due to opposition.

Task force slams Mandya CMC

Mandya, Oct 7, DHNS

The Task Force for Implementation of Third Finance Commission recommendations has took a critical view of the failure of the City Municipal Council (CMC) to identify illegal structures and sites in city.

In a report, Chairman of the Taskforce has criticised the CMC for having failed to enumerate exact number of unauthorised structures and revenue sites in city.

The report says the number given by the civic body was no way near to the actual unauthorised building and sites in the city. The task force has also recommended to the government transfer of the CMC Commissioner.

The issue came up for discussion at the council meeting here on Wednesday.  The Task Force had contended that being serving in the CMC for last four years, the commissioner has not shown interest in identifying unauthorised properties.

The Task force had carried out a review of the CMC affairs in July this year.

The Taskforce has also observed that there were irregularities and violation of rules in distribution of licence to buildings and tendering pole advertisements. The chairman has taken a dig at the bad management of solid waste management in city.

Shoddy footpath work

In yet another embarrassment to the CMC, the inter-locking tiles that had been used on footpath in front of the CMC have come up.  Because of this, the entire stretch looks uneven. Citizens are facing to walk on this footpath.

MCD pitches in to finish turf laying work at stadium
Finding it nearly impossible to finish the work on time, the venue administrator of Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium sought the help of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for laying its turf. Sources said the venue administrator of the stadium requested the civic agency at the last minute, asking it to send a team of 50 workers to help them lay the turf.

"The private contractor who had been given the task to lay the turf was taking a lot of time. Fearing that the work might not be completed in time, we were asked to help them out as the work had to be completed by Wednesday morning," said a senior MCD official.

The turf had to be laid again as it had got spoilt due to the stage which was installed for the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

"We sent 50 workers from the horticulture department who worked from 5 pm to 3 am the next morning laying the grass," added the official.

Laying the turf was one of the crucial jobs of the Organising Committee (OC) as it had to be readied for athletics.
The turf, which has been grown at Hapur, has special quality grass to suit the needs of the sporting events.

A large portion of the synthetic track got damaged during the opening ceremony, as the protective covering on the turf was unable to take the impact of thousands of dancers and heavy instrument and equipment placed over it.

The Games organising committee had merely two days to repair the damage as the events were scheduled for Wednesday.
