Metro line to connect south Mumbai to Thane

If you live in Thane and work in south Mumbai, your daily commute is set to get easier. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to alter the route of the Hutatma Chowk-Mulund Metro line to extend it to the busy Teen Haath Naka junction in Thane. This will provide residents of Thane, who have been dependent on the railways to reach the city, a modern mode of transport.

“We are working on changing the alignment because we feel that will help garner more travellers and make the route economically beneficial,” Metropolitan Commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad said.

The MMRDA, which is planning to build nine Metro corridors in Mumbai, was going to build a 12.4-km Mulund-Ghatkopar line for Rs 2,790 crore. This was to be extended by another 21.8-km to Hutatma Chowk at a cost of Rs 8,305 crore.

The MMRDA’s new plan involves extending the Metro line by 2km from Mulund to Teen Haath Naka in Thane.

The MMRDA is also contemplating taking the Metro only to Carnac Bunder on P D’Mello Road, instead of Hutatma Chowk, and connecting it to Wadala. “Our Colaba-Bandra line is already serving Hutatma Chowk so it makes sense to limit the earlier Hutatma Chowk-Ghatkopar line to Carnac Bunder,” Gaikwad added.

The MMRDA is carrying out a study on the Carnac Bunder-Wadala-Ghatkopar-Mulund-Teen Haath Naka alignment. The length of the proposed route will be approximately 40km.

Meanwhile MMRDA’s plan of extending the Metro till Thane will be greatly benefit the suburbs residence.

The MMRDA has already proposed hybrid transportation model including a Monorail and Metro line network for Thane.

The 40-km line will include a 30-km Monorail line from Kalyan to Bhiwandi and then to Kapurbawdi in Thane. Beyond this, the line will be converted into a 10-km Metro track, which will run to Thane station and then to Kasarwadavli on Ghodbunder Road.

The project will cost the MMRDA Rs 4,800 crore. The development body has further plans of extending this line to Mira-Bhayander.

Park in poor shape

BANGALORE: The residents of Geetanjali Layout and other areas have the privilege to utilise the park maintained by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). It is one of the best maintained parks by the BBMP and is also considered as a boon for the residents.

The park has all the infrastructure such as brand new cement benches, walking path, landscape and many plants and trees to ensure the greenery. It will be a pleasant for the people of nearby areas to pay a visit to this park.

Many people, especially, senior citizens visit it every day. “It is a very good and well-maintained park. I am very happy to visit it daily,’’ said A Sridharamurthy, a senior citizen.

However, the children’s park that exists adjacent to this park is most neglected one. The infrastructure at the park is not up to the mark. Most of the swings are broken and other equipments are rusted.

“I am unable to understand the logic behind the laxity of BBMP authorities in keeping this park fit for use by the children,’’ said a housewife on anonymity.

When contacted, Sumithra, Corporator, said that she would direct the BBMP authorities to replace the rusted play equipment at the children’s park. “I will visit the park along with the BBMP authorities. The problem will be solved within a few weeks. I want the BBMP to maintain it properly,’’ she said.

Meanwhile, S Chandrasekhar, Superintendent, Horticulture Department (East), BBMP, has said that he had assumed the office recently.

“I will visit the park within a few days and see what best can be done for the development of the children’s park. No one has brought these problems to my notice. I will take necessary measures to develop it,’’ said Chandrasekhar.

Govt okays urban land titling Bill

Staff Reporter | New Delhi

The Delhi Government on Monday gave the go-ahead for the introduction of the new Property Titling System; one of the key mandatory reforms under the JNNURM.

“The new system will reduce litigation and prevent encroachment, transaction in land will become simpler, quicker, accurate and secure and credit crunch in property growth will be tackled due to better titling system. It will also facilitate in an inclusive urban planning,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said after the Cabinet meeting.

The Government decided in principle for introduction of a new Property Titling System and has given its approval to a Draft Bill of the Delhi Survey Registration & Record of Title to Immovable Properties in Urban Areas Act, 2010. The Draft Bill is being sent to the Union Government for its approval. The Delhi Survey Registration & Record of Title to Immovable Properties in Urban Areas Act, 2010 will be presented in the Legislative Assembly after getting a go-ahead from the Centre.

The Bill as approved by the Union Government will be presented in the Legislative Assembly. Though there is a system for recording rural land titles through Khasra/Khatauni and Girdawari, in the urban set up there is no such system.

The registration of the properties under the Registration Act, 1908 is not mandatory; it only provides proof of presumed ownership but is not a conclusive proof of title.

The Bill also envisages creating a single secure and efficient Urban Property Registration and Title Recording Authority, which shall consist of a Chairman and maximum five members appointed by the Government.

The Authority will conduct survey of immovable properties, record & maintain entries, assign unique Identification Number to properties and maintain electronic records. It will also create a system for electronic holding of records and set up service areas for public facilitation, maintain a register of titles, issue certificates of record of titles and will impose penalties for violation of various provisions of legislation.
