PWD builds drains and leaves a mess
Bagepalli, Jan 5, DH News Service:

It has now come to light that the Public Works Department, who built the underground storm water drains, were themselves responsible for its malfunctioning too.

The remains of the construction material used while building the drains were not removed once the construction was complete. Thanks to their shoddy work, the drains soon got clogged and sewage with fecal matter was spilling on to the roads.

Workers from the Town Municipal Council, under the guidance of health officials, started a massive clean-up drive on Monday. They traced the flow of the sewage to check for the blockage and found that the drain was clogged in front of Ganesh Medicals. This part of the underground drain was constructed recently by the Public Works department.

On Tuesday, the Town Municipal Council staff dug a hole in the road to enter the drain and found that the equipment used to build a centring during the construction of the drain was not cleared. Neither the PWD engineers nor the officials have paid any attention to this.
The TMCstaff cleared off at least 10 truck-load of construction material from the drain on Tuesday. The works were carried out under the leadership of health official Murali and Town Municipal Council staff Amar.

During the drive, residents expressed their ire over the lack of cleanliness in the region. “Piles of garbage lie on the roads, street lights in ward 1 and 2 do not work and heaps of unused jalli lie on the roads,” the residents complained.

They added that for the past one week they had stopped using the road as it was filled with sewage water.

MCD to raise Rs.2,000 cr selling slum properties

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Cooperation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday said it expects to raise nearly Rs.2,000 crore by selling some of the commercial sites under its slum department.

"There are 11 commercial sites which we are hoping to auction. By selling them we expect to raise an amount of around Rs.2,000 crore," Leader of MCD house Subhash Arya told.

"We would entrust their auction to DDA (Delhi Development Authority) which would carry out the procedure to ensure optimum income. The revenue generated out of auction would be deposited in a fixed deposit in a nationalised bank and we would utilise only the interest part of it for development works in the slums," he added.

HMDA comes out with user-friendly applications

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has introduced modified and simplified forms for applying for layouts, gated communities, group development, multistoreyed buildings and change of land use.

HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner BP Acharya released the new forms, to be used from Saturday, at the HMDA office here on Friday.

The form, priced at Rs 100, would shortly be available for downloading on the HMDA website - www.hmda.gov.in.

A help desk to offer information on various services of the HMDA has started functioning in the Planning Department of the HMDA office in the GHMC building at West Marredpally, Secunderabad.

Deadline for LRS fee: Meanwhile, the HMDA has announced January 18 as the deadline for payment of dues under the Layout Regularisation Scheme (LRS).

Failure to remit the dues could result in the closure of files and forfeiture of initial penal fee paid. The HMDA has approved about 10,000 requests for regularisation and sent letters to the applicants asking them to pay the balance penal fee. However, many of them have not yet paid the amount causing undue delay in issuance of final orders.

The details of the dues will shortly be displayed on the notice boards of HMDA offices and its - www.hmda.gov.in.

Tenders called again: The HMDA has invited tenders once again, following lukewarm response for the earlier notification, for installing Antiglare Panels (AGR) on the PV Narasimha Rao Elevated Expressway.

The HMDA has proposed to instal 5,000 antiglare panels on the Expressway to protect drivers from the glare of oncoming vehicles and help them negotiate curves better. The panels would be spread out on the median at appropriate distances.
