Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation will not allow school buses and tourist buses to be parked in parking lots other than the one constructed in Manimajra. The decision was taken during a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee held today.

The civic body had constructed the parking lot in Manimajra for the purpose of providing space to the tourist as well as school buses. However, the bus parking found no takers. Rather buses were found to be parked in parking lots in various sectors of the city.

Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwach has been asked to ensure that buses not be allowed to park in the parking lots in order to encourage the use of the parking lot in Manimajra.

The meeting of the committee was held under the chairpersonship of Mayor Anu Chatrath and attended by other members. The committee has further decided that the area Executive Engineers concerned be given the charge of the paid parking lots in order to streamline these. The road wing of the civic body has three wings. It was decided that the budget allocation, manpower and machinery be equally provided to the divisions.

In another decision, the committee members have divided the responsibility of managing the enforcement wing. The encroachments in Manimajra would be looked into by Joint Commissioner Kamlesh Kumar, while the rest of the city would be looked after by Siwach.
