JDA against underground parking at Statue Circle

JAIPUR: Putting an end to the confusion, the JDA board on Monday decided against any underground parking at Statue Circle. The board, while approving the beautification' and development' of the Statue Circle, said there will not be any underground parking there. However, it has decided to acquire 15 feet of land on the four corners to expand the landscaping area.

The project for the beautification of Statue Circle hit a roadblock due to differences between the UDH minister and chief secretary who has been taking a keen interest in the project. While the minister favoured total remodelling of the circle with an underground parking slot, the chief secretary and the tourism department differed as they claimed that the remodelling would spoil the heritage character of the famous circle in the city. Some organisations like the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, also come out in the open opposing the idea of redesigning of the area, saying Statue Circle is one of the problem- free areas of Jaipur where there is no traffic jam or congestion which requires an underground parking.

Minister Shanti Dhariwal said the JDA will incorporate the suggestions of the chief secretary and the tourism department and all concerned citizens while making the revised plan for the beautification and development of the Statue Circle. It also gave its approval for the renovation proposal for the Ramniwas Bagh.
