From Nov 15, action against vehicles entering BRTS lane

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday said the city police from November 15 will initiate action against private vehicles illegally getting into dedicated Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lane on city roads.

The PMC general body under the BPMC Act 1949 has empowered the city police to take action against vehicles causing obstruction in smooth flow of traffic on city roads and also parking of vehicles parked in restricted area. According to the PMC, the police even in the absence of civic staff will take action against any two-wheeler or four- wheeler illegally getting into BRTS lane.

The civic body is also launching a drive against vehicles being parked in no parking areas. The vehicles would be considered to be encroaching the area and would be removed by the police.

Despite having a dedicated lane for BRTS, the PMC was unable to stop the use of lane by other vehicles with no rule in place and had to pass a resolution in the general body. The private vehicles were using the lane and speeding led to accidents some times.
