BANGALORE: The Shanthinagar Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) was inaugurated with much fanfare in September. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa himself inaugurated it, but with a lot of work at the site pending, it will take the centre another couple of months to be ready for operation.

The Shanthinagar TTMC is part of the Rs 479.95-crore Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) project, under which the state government and the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation planned to build nine such centres in the city.

According to the initial plan, the work at the nine TTMCs should have been completed by July.

Though the Chief Minister and Home and Transport Minister have officially inaugurated the TTMC, the Rs108.5-crore Shanthinagar TTMC is lying vacant for the last two months and work hasn’t been completed yet.

Painting of the five-storey building is still going on, while in the main building the safety nets have been put up and flooring work is underway.

The Shanthinagar facility, which is supposed to serve as a traffic and transit centre managing both inter-state and intra-state bus traffic, presently houses the labourers and their families.
