BWSSB plans projects worth Rs 6,000 cr
Naidu was speaking after inaugurating drinking water and sewage projects at Kakatiya Nagar in Padmanabhanagar constituency. He further said that the government was eager to start a project to provide five TMC of water to Bangalore at a cost of Rs 3000 crore, in the next two to three years.
The government is planning to take control of 148 tanks and lakes, including Thippagondanahalli tank, that have been leased to private companies, to enhance ground-water in the city. Authorities have been given instructions in this regard.
BBMP and BDA had already acquired 30 lakes and would be acquiring 70 more lakes within one year. BBMP, BDA and BMRDA have been instructed to clean the lakes.
Tenders for a sewerage water purification plant at a cost of Rs 2000 crore will be called for in the near future. The purified water can be used in industries, for cleaning and other household purposes.
The old and worn-out sewerage lines in the city would be replaced at a cost of Rs 1000 crore. Naidu said: “A 20-km-long drinking water line would be laid to Kakatiya Nagar in two months at a cost of Rs 2.8 crore.”
Model ward
The Minister announced that the government was planning to develop Yediyur ward as a model ward and had already set aside Rs 10 crore for supplying drinking water to all households in the ward.
