Chandigarh:  The Water Supply and Sewerage Disposal Committee of the Municipal Corporation has approved the installation of water features in various green belts of the city. In a meeting held today, the committee gave an approval to shift, construct road gullies and lay new pipelines.

The civic body will install a cascading water feature in a greenbelt in Sector 40 at a cost of Rs 11.52 lakh. Another water feature would be installed in Dream Park, Sector 23. The civic body had earlier installed fountains in different wards which cost between Rs 20 to Rs 30 lakh. Maintenance of these fountains proved to be troublesome as parts of the fountains were stolen.

It was then decided that instead of fountains, water features should be installed. The plea taken was that apart from being easy to maintain these would be cost efficient. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Vijay Singh Rana and was attended by other committee members. As many as 17 estimates of various agenda items were approved by the committee.

It also approved the estimate for work of shifting and reconstruction of road gullies in Sectors 24, 36, 51, 34 and 40. The committee accorded approval to provide new sewer line in parts of Ram Darbar Colony and Khera Chowk Hallomajra at a cost of Rs 11 lakh. Additional road gullies would be provided for drainage of rain water on V-6 road in Sector 33 at a cost of Rs 14.30 lakh. Pipelines for irrigation of greenbelt in Sector 34 would be laid.
