Priority to drinking water, says Mayor

City to be made slum-free by 2015

20 projects have been taken up under the JNNURM


VISAKHAPATNAM: Plans are afoot to make the city slum-free by 2015 by implementing the Rajiv Awas Yojna programme and dust-bin free by 2012, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao has said.

Speaking at the Municipal Corporation after unfurling the national flag, he said under the Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), 20 projects were taken up at a cost of Rs.1,886 crores. Top priority was accorded to drinking water by taking up seven projects at an outlay of Rs.650 crores. He gave away certificates to 103 officials and employees for their services. Cultural programmes by students of GVMC schools followed.

Municipal Commissioner V.N. Vishnu, corporators Badrunnisa, G.V. Ravi Raju, Alla Srinivasa Rao, Additional Commissioners S. Krishna Murthy and P. Purnachandra Rao participated.
