Devprayag residents face severe shortage of drinking water supply

PNS | Dehradun

The residents of Devprayag town in Tehri district have been facing severe shortage of drinking water supply. The debris of landslides triggered by continuous rain has caused severe damage to natural sources of drinking water.

Moreover, almost all the natural sources of drinking water have been contaminated by the debris of landslide. The residents have been left with no other option for drinking waters supply in the town. The administration has been doing its best and supplying drinking water brought by tankers from a distance.

Sources added that all the arrangements made by the administration have proved inadequate to meet the demand of drinking water in the town. The people have been reeling under dire shortage of water and running from one source of water to another in order to meet their basic need of water.

Devprayag SDM confirmed the shortage of drinking water in Devprayag. He said the incessant rain and subsequent landslides had caused sever damage to traditional sources of water. The work is on to remove the debris from natural sources and meanwhile the water is being supplies in the town by water tankers. Within two days the drinking water supply will be normal, he adds.

Similarly, there was a shortage of drinking water and power in Pauri district too. Incessant rain has caused widespread damage to drinking water projects, electricity poles leading to shortage of water and electricity supply and disrupting communication system.
