Leak poses problems to VMC officials

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Ramalingeswara Nagar 10-MGD plant posed new problems to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Tuesday. The officials found that there was a water leakage from the valve.

The leak was noticed when they attempted to pump water from the plant to the reservoirs. The officials began repair works immediately, and the works were expected to be completed by Tuesday night. Water supply would be restored from Wednesday onwards.

The corporation officials said that it would take half a day to pump and fill the reservoirs. Hence, total water supply would be restored only by Wednesday evening, if the repair works continued beyond midnight.

Exactly a week ago, the plant posed a similar problem. Then the corporation officials carried out necessary repairs to the pipelines that were damaged at the plant. The officials conducted a trial run last Tuesday, and noticed that there was a leak due to damage of valve.

They could restore water supply by last Wednesday. However, on the following day 180-HP motors posed a new problem forcing them to close the plant.
