Municipal corporation proposes slabs for charging water bills
CHANDIGARH:
Municipal corporation has proposed different slabs for charging water
bills from UT residents, depending on usage. The administration has
suggested a formula in this regard. Of the total available 87 Million
Gallons per Day (MGD), 15 to 20MGD is wasted either due to leakage or misuse. The civic body has been getting payment for just 67MGD of water.
An MC official said though the civic body is contemplating revision of water tariff, a final decision is yet to be taken. At present, Chandigarh administration is receiving 67MGD of water from Kajauli water works in Mohali against its share of 58MGD. It gets 20MGD water from various tube-wells installed in the city.
Therefore, the availability of water in Chandigarh is 87MGD against a requirement of approximately 70MGD for domestic, industrial, commercial and institutional use. The 35MGD requirement of water for horticultural purpose is to be met from recycled sewage and shallow water.
