Sufficient water reserves for Hyderabad till August
Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials on Wednesday assured there were sufficient reserves in the water sources to ensure supply till August 2013 in the State capital.
Presently, 340 million gallons per day was being drawn and supplied from different sources, including Osmansagar, Himayathsagar, Singoor, Manjeera and Krishna. With the current water levels, emergency pumping of water from Krishna would not be required, officials stated during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Chief Minister reviewed the water supply, demand and position of water sources, contingent action plan for summer.
Mr. Reddy instructed the officials to take up measures to meet the summer demand and strengthen the field level supply by close monitoring.
Technology
He directed them to utilise technology for plugging leakages, pilferages, thefts of water and to modernise the entire system on phased manner.
He also said the officials to take experts consultancy for the purpose.
Officials informed that 11 projects with an estimated cost of Rs.2002 crore JNNURM works were being taken up and already four projects with an amount of Rs.793 crore were completed. The rest seven projects with Rs.1209 crore were under progress.
The Godavari drinking water supply project, which is being implemented with HUDCO assistance at a cost of Rs.3375 crore, would be completed by March 2014. The Rs.1670-crore Krishna Phase III project, which is targeted to be completed by April 2014, would be completed by June 2014.
Borewells
Under summer action plan for nine municipal areas on the city outskirts, GHMC has taken up drilling of 408 power borewells, of which 261 were already completed.
Special Chief Secretary Ajeyendra Pyal, Principal Secretary Irrigation, Adityanath Das, Principal Secretary Municipal Administration, Sambob, GHMC Commissioner, M.T. Krishna Babu, HMWSSB Managing Director, J. Shymala Rao, Ministers, J. Geetha Reddy and Danam Nagendar and other officials participated in the meeting, said a press release.
