MC project for 24x7 water supply to be underway soon

The pilot project of the Municipal Corporation for providing 24x7 water supply will get underway, with the Administration giving approval for construction of an overhead tank. The project will be started at Mauli Jagran.

The discussion on the project and several other issues took place at the co-ordination committee meeting between the UT Administration and the Municipal Corporation.

As per the project, instead of the water being supplied only at designated hours in the morning and evening, it will be provided throughout the day.

Experts opine that if this is done, it will help save water as there is a tendency among people to throw away water that they have saved in the morning and fill it up again in the evening.

Mauli Jagran was chosen for the pilot project after the outbreak of diarrhea that claimed several lives. It was found that people have installed pumps on the water pipelines that became the cause for contamination.

In another decision, drawings of three dispensaries that are to be constructed in the southern sectors have been cleared. Around a month back, Administration had cleared sites for setting up dispensaries.

It has been a long-pending demand of the residents of southern sectors as no such facility is available in the third phase sectors.

The Municipal Corporation has recently taken over Rajindra Park from the UT Administration. Inspection by officials revealed that more than 1,000 mango trees had been damaged. The civic body will now start the process of reviving the park.

It has been decided that a boundary wall will be constructed to keep unauthorized people out.

Another issue that was discussed in the meeting was pertaining to the village bylaws. The draft of the village bylaws does not specify whether the buildings that have already been constructed be regularised. It was decided that the central government will be consulted on the issue.

The multilevel parking lot proposed in Sector 17 will also be started soon with the Administration agreeing to relax the restrictions being imposed on construction.
